In February of 2015, 14 downtown Oshawa restaurants featured all-veg, winter-warm soups, flavoured according to Afro-Caribbean-inspired recipes. Of these, 6 restaurants also brought their soups to 4 soup stations in 2 prominent public locations: City Hall lobby and Ministry of Finance lobby each of four days, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
You might recall that the week of Feb 23rd was the coldest in 75 years, and perhaps the coldest in Oshawa's recorded history. Not only did the soup station staff contend with the weather, but there was a fire alarm, a water main break and a sink hole on the main access roads during the same period! Still each restaurant sold a record number of soups making the event a win-win for all.
